Tim Burton exhibition

The exhibition dedicated by the Cinémathèque française to the director Tim Burton deserves a visit to know the different faces hidden of this eclectic director. We first of all discover that Tim Burton is born as a designer and then he puts the images of his prolific mind to the service of cinema. On the other hand, the American director is not an "improvisé" of the art, on the contrary he is an ancient student of the Institute of Art of California, someone who has known well reinvent the codes of the sketch and the animation after having perfectly handled the tools of it. For this reason, the exhibition results really complete: it traces the history of this director from his childhood in the city of Burbank up to his last film Dark Shadows. There is a large retrospective dedicated to his sketches, to his characters in models, to his inventions, to his short films, following his first footsteps in the cinema industry to the service of Disney company. A small comment on the price: 11 euro, even for Tim Burton, don't you think is a little bit too much?

World Press Photo 2012 in Paris

Fino al 21 giugno, presso la Galerie Azzedine Alaïa, nel 3ème arrondissement di Parigi, avrete l'occasione di assistere alla selezione delle più belle immagini del fotogiornalismo internazionale 2011, scelte e premiate dal concorso indetto dalla Fondazione World Press Photo. Creata nel 1955 e con sede ad Amsterdam, questa Fondazione si preoccupa di promuovere il fotogiornalismo, quale occhio puntato sull'attualità del mondo, e uno dei mezzi a disposizione è proprio il concorso in oggetto.

Quest'anno la palma d'oro è stata vinta dallo spagnolo Samuel Aranda per The New York Times. Aggiungiamo meritatamente. La foto ritrae una madre completamente in nero, il volto nascosto e rivolto amorevolmete verso suo figlio, che sorregge tra le sue braccia, mentre lo consola dopo aver ricevuto pesanti ferite durante una manifestazione anti-autoritaria a Sanaa, in Yemen, il 15 ottobre 2011. La foto è uno scatto che blocca il tempo di una guerra in un gesto d'amore. Lo strazio del figlio, il dolore che si intravede dalla bocca aperta in un ghigno di sofferenza e l'abbraccio materno ci ricordano la Pietà di Michelangelo. Lì la Vergine esponeva il corpo, qui la madre lo trattiene, lo protegge, in un atto privato e riservato che la foto trasforma in pubblico. Ma i volti sono invisibili e questa impossibilità di vederli rende ancora più essenziale la lettura dell'immagine perchè lo spettatore trattiene solamente il nucleo centrale dello scatto: un atto d'amore materno, da madre a figlio.
